Curious World of Audio Slideshows

My journey to exploring the ins and outs of audio slideshows inevitably begins with a good old ‘nosing’ around. In other words research, research and even more research.

After hours of searching through various audio slideshow websites (and enjoying it,I must add), trying to see where it fits in with our media consumption, and indeed if its presence is justified or needed, it appears there are many people who absolutely rely on this form of communication as their main outlet to get across information.

It’s like an entire world out there, unknown to me (well, until now), dedicated to this form of communication and it’s absolutely fascinating. From media giants such as the BBC and the Guardian newspaper, to smaller companies such as Duckrabbit and even individuals, it seems audio slideshows have avid followers and users who have embraced it and are using it to their advantage.

My top five media outlets who produce amazing audio slideshows are:

1. Duckrabbit

2. The New York Times

3. Guardian newspaper

4. BBC

5. Los Angeles Times

My curiosity has heightened now. With all this investment and dedication to audio slideshows by these companies, large and small, surely there must be money to be made from it? Actually, maybe audio slideshows could even be the next big thing.

I want to find out more and the only way to do it is to go straight to the experts, as it were, like the ones I’ve listed above. My aim now is to speak to at least one of these outlets personally, and find out more. Perhaps they can help me answer the many and growing questions I have, such as how and why audio slideshows even began and what does the future hold for it. Join me in my next post, right here on VisVox, to see who, from my list above, I speak to.
