Audio Slideshows at the Guardian
This is the second of a three part interview with Andy Duckworth, a multi-media producer at the Guardian.
He helps produce the Guardian’s audio slideshows. There are currently over 300 to watch on their website. But he says it’s still a new field for them and they’re still experimenting to find the best format.
He says there are many different ways to do an audio slideshow. You can use ambient sounds, speeches, rich audio files or just interviews. But for him the most important thing is using good pictures, and getting them right.
He says they think carefully at the Guardian about how they tell stories. He thinks audio slideshows work best when you use fantastic photographs to give a fresh look at a story. In his opinion, not only do they allow people to have more time to absorb what they’re seeing, they can be a unique way of covering a story visually that’s already been seen widely across other media outlets.
If you want to find out how other media organisations approach audio slideshows why not read our post on producer Paul Kerley, who gives an insight into what the BBC does? Read it here on VisVox. Or peruse our ‘Take it from the Experts’ page.
