A journey with audio slideshows

In my last post I vowed to speak to at least one of my top five audio slideshow websites. Well, the people behind them that is. The wait is now over. I spoke to the people behind the popular audio slideshow website, Duckrabbit and also the Duckrabbit blog which, after nealry five years on the scene, have managed to put themselves at the top of the game.

In an exclusive interview, Dave White, Photography Director and one of the founders, sheds some light on the journey audio slideshows have taken to reach the stage it is now. I had a rather long conversation with Dave and in my interview I began by asking him when and how the method of audio slideshows was born and what he thinks the future holds for it. I also asked him about the advantages and pitfalls of the sector, as well as the all important, how to make money from audio slideshows, or photo films, as he sometimes refers to it. Dave also stressed the importance of applying media law to this area.

I learned so much from my interview and I intend to share all the tips with you. So tune in to VisVox, where I’ll be bringing you all the tips, in a series of blog posts. Here, in my first series, my curiosity is evident, as I asked Dave about the history and the future of audio slide shows.

“I’m sure there were people putting sound and speech over slideshows in Victorian times,” said Dave. “It’s a very old method. It’s just that the internet has come along now and allows you the opportunity to marry the images to the sound.”

In my next instalment I’ll be talking about the emotions that audio slideshows can capture, compared to other mediums. So be sure to tune in again to VisVox for the next leg of this journey.
