Business Brains & Financial Podcasts
Steven Bell is a Director at GLC Ltd, a hedge fund firm. He runs their global macro programme.
But he also co-presents Loz N Belly, a financial podcast for the company. It’s been running since September 2008.
They take topics in the news and look at them from a financial perspective, whilst discussing what’s happening in the world’s markets.
He says taking time to make a podcast for the business has been beneficial, particularly as a way of communicating. He said:
“It’s a narrow market, financial information podcasts, but it’s a simple way of communicating with our prospective investors, actual clients, and to people internally.”
Communication is also very important when planning the podcast. They prepare the content by discussing and debating and then making a note of the relevant points they want to raise, before going into the studio.
But it’s not all easy.
He says they’ve got to be very careful about what they’re saying. Before anything is uploaded to the web it is listened to vigilantly and a disclaimer is placed on it and on the site. So, anyone looking to make a podcast on finance needs to take on board some important factors. He said that they’re particularly careful not to use the podcast as a vehicle to sell funds to those who might not be authorised to invest in them.
